    SILVER SPRING, Md. (May 24, 2023) Dr. Hua Wei Chen, a research scientist with Naval Medical Research Command (NMRC)’s Infectious Diseases Diagnostic Laboratory (NIDDL) prepares a sample to test for the presence of the Zika RNA virus. The NIDDL serves in the detection and identification of high-risk and emerging infectious diseases and is a member of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Laboratory Response Network for detection and reporting of infectious disease threats around the globe. Formerly known as Naval Medical Research Center, NMRC supports the Navy, Marine Corps and joint U.S. warfighters through research of infectious diseases, biological warfare detection and defense, combat casualty care, environmental health concerns, aerospace and undersea medicine, medical modeling, simulation, operational mission support, epidemiology and behavioral sciences.
