U.S. Marines with Battalion Landing Team 2/1, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, escort simulated personnel of interest to safety during a tactical recovery of aircraft and personnel exercise at Camp Hansen Okinawa, Japan, May 17, 2023. The TRAP exercise was conducted to increase the Marines’ proficiency in future deployments, by practicing the rescue and recovery of personnel. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
