During the ceremony, Capt. Paul J. Lanzilotta was relieved by Capt. Richard Burgess as Ford's commanding officer. Ford is in port at Naval Station Norfolk for a continuous planned maintenance availability. As the first-in-class ship of Ford-class aircraft carriers, CVN 78 represents a generational leap in the U.S. Navy’s capacity to project power on a global scale.
