Philippine soldiers and U.S. Marines meet with leaders of the Antique Police Provincial Office during Balikatan 23 in the Province of Antique, Philippines, April 12, 2023. Armed Forces of the Philippines service members and 3rd Civil Affairs Group Marines were invited by the police provisional office leadership to discuss an upcoming youth event, humanitarian assistance and disaster response, and strengthen current relationships. Balikatan, Tagalog for “shoulder-to-shoulder,” is an annual bilateral exercise between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the U.S. military. The exercise provides unique opportunities for participating forces to increase interoperability and provide tangible benefits for the people of the Philippines.
