Barbara Canavan, daughter of Cmdr. Frederick Schrader, displays ‘Teddy,’ the stuffed bear her father gave to her before departing aboard USS Hornet (CV 12). Schrader was shot down over Formosa (modern day Taiwan) in 1944. His remains would not be identified until the fall of 2022. He will be buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific on April 13, 2023 with three generations of his family, and Teddy, present. (Photo courtesy of George Retelas)
