GREAT LAKES, Ill. (April 4, 2023) Naval Station Great Lakes celebrates military children during the month of April. On April 4, Capt. Jason Williamson, NSGL commanding officer, visits the Great Lakes Child Development Center in Bldg. 2700 to sign a proclamation to celebrate military children and chat with a few of the military kids, accompanied by Cmdr. Terry Traweek, NSGL executive officer, and Command Master Chief Tony Corey, NSGL CMC. According to the Department of Defense, there are more than 1.6 million military children who face many challenges and unique experiences as a result of their parents' service. While military members serve around the world, often forgotten are the challenges faced by their children. Military families move on average every two to three years, impacting military children through changing schools and support networks. Each year, NSGL joins local government, schools, CDC and MWR in celebrating military children and the sacrifices they make. (U.S. Navy photo by John Sheppard/Released)
