Pacific Area Reserve leadership gather in Alameda, Calif. to develop contingency plans for the Reserve workforce and accept prestigious national awards.

Vice Adm. Andrew Tiongosn and Rear Adm. Miriam Lafferty presented the prestigious Admiral Russel R. Waesche Award to the Fourteenth Coast Guard District and the Rear Admiral Bennett "Bud" Sparks Award to Coast Guard Sector Anchorage.

While serving as Commandant, Admiral Waesche established the Coast Guard Reserve in 1941 to increase readiness during World War II. The Fourteenth Coast Guard District earned the award for their critical response during Operation Allies Welcome, their unparalleled support during the COVID-19 pandemic and continued support of the active duty workforce.

Coast Guard Sector Anchorage earned the Rear Admiral Bennett "Bud" Sparks Award for their outstanding commitment to maintaining readiness and Incident Command System training that allowed them to have a positive impact at the local, regional and national level.
