Meet PFC Chloe Sophia Telford, a 25 year-old combat medic with the 1st Engineer Battalion, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division. A native of nowhere by her own admission, Telford has been in the Army for a little over a year- seven months of which she has been on Fort Riley. Having lived in Colorado, Alaska, North Carolina and Virginia, she has a lot of experience with the United States against which to compare Fort Riley. Regardless, she still enjoys her time here.
“I think you can appreciate something about any area you’re in- genuinely.”
Telford is currently training to test for her Expert Field Medical Badge, one of three job-dependent badges that are among the most difficult accolades to achieve in the Army. “I love the fact that I get the opportunity to be here, to get the extra medical training,” she says.
Determined to perform her best, after a long day of training for the EFMB, Telford returns to her barracks- where she continues to rehearse her skills. “On my downtime, I don’t have downtime,” she says in between laughs. “A lot of people talk about the fail rate- but why would I concentrate on that? I want to succeed.”
Speaking with a wisdom beyond her years, Telford echoed the old adage ‘Be the change you want to see in this world.’
“Coming into the Army, you are the culture. You make the Army what you want it to be.”
