76th Operational Response Command

Army Reserve soldiers assigned to 455 Chemical Brigade, 76 Operational Response Command, arrange the best way to reach the next point in their map at the land navigation course event during the second day of the “Best Warrior Competition” (BWC) on February 9, 2023, at Fort Hunter Liggett, Calif. During daylight, in the field, the candidate receives a 1:50,000-scale military topographic map, a compass, a coordinate scale and protractor, a pencil, and the eight-digit coordinates of the start point. The candidates at the land navigation event during the BWC must plot the start, the three intermediate points, and the endpoint on the map; therefore, soldiers navigate the course using navigational techniques and record the position stake number for each point within 3 hours.

The 76th Operational Response Command (76th ORC) is the Army Reserve's Center for Defense Support of Civilian Authorities, providing support to state and local officials, first responders, and other federal agencies during emergencies or natural disasters. The 76th ORC is home to two Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) brigades, a space brigade, a Regional Support Group, The Army Reserve's Consequence Management Unit, 11 Army Reserve Elements, 10 Regional Emergency Preparedness Liaison Office (EPLO) Teams, and 53 State EPLO Teams.
