A solider with the 1st Regimental Landing Team, Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, awards Sgt. Marygrace Barros, a water support technician with Combat Logistics Battalion 31, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, with a challenge coin after setting up a platoon water purification system at Hijudai, Japan on Feb. 23, 2023. The platoon water purification system provided Marines with the 31st MEU, and soldiers with the JGSDF with a drinkable water supply during simulated combat operations and training exercises during Iron Fist 23. Iron Fist is an annual bilateral exercise designed to increase interoperability and strengthen the relationships between the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Navy, the JGSDF, and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
