U.S. Navy Hospital Mate 3rd Class Kayle Madej cleans the arm of Hospital Mate 3rd Class Sands, both corpsman with Combat Logistics Battalion 31, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, during blood transfusion training for Iron Fist 23 in Hijudai, Japan, Feb. 21, 2023. The training was held to enhance the U.S. and Japan’s military medical personnel’s combined ability to collect blood in a deployed environment. Iron Fist is an annual bilateral exercise designed to increase interoperability and strengthen the relationships between the U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Navy, the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, and the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
