Mr. Walter T. Michel has served as the Department Chief, Facilities Management Division, Tripler Army Medical Center from September 2016 until his retirement this February 2023.
As Department Chief, he directed Space Management, Master Planning, the Utilities & Maintenance Branch, the Engineering and Construction Branch; program efforts of over $40M annually on infrastructure maintenance and modernization, and space utilization programs; provided solutions to daily business impacts on almost 2 Million square feet of space at Tripler Army Medical Center campus, Desmond Doss Health Clinic at Schofield Barracks, the Warrior Ohana Medical Home at Kapolei, Hawaii, the Veterinary Clinic at Fort Shafter and Schofield Barracks, and the Dental Clinic at Fort Shafter.
Mr. Walter T. Michel successfully guided the Division through the organizational changes from U.S. Army Medical Command to the Defense Health Agency. Throughout his tenure, he provided strategic leadership and expertise in all matters related to the essential infrastructure and support services required to operate 24/7 tertiary medical care, research, and teaching institution.
