OKINAWA JAPAN (DEC. 19, 2022) – U.S. Marines and Sailors with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit board a CH-53E Super Stallion during a tactical recovery of aircraft and personnel mission aboard amphibious transport dock USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26), Dec, 19. A force in readiness, the 13th MEU trains to rapidly respond to crises in all domain environments through naval power projection. The 13th MEU is embarked with the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, comprised of amphibious assault ship USS Makin Island (LHD 8) and amphibious transport dock ships USS Anchorage (LPD 23) and the John P. Murtha, and operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with Allies and partners and serve as a ready-response force to defend peace and maintain stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
