GREAT LAKES, Ill. (Jan. 6, 2023) Fireman Wenhey Li, a Machinery Repairman (MR) "A" School student, develops and practices metal shaving skill while using a lathe during a lab at Surface Warfare Engineering School Command Great Lakes (SWESC GL). MRs are skilled machine tool operators who make replacement parts and repair or overhaul ships' engines and auxiliary systems. They also work on deck equipment including winches and hoists, condensers and heat exchange devices. SWESC GL offers the Navy's only apprentice training track for accession surface engineers, provides entry-level accession surface navigation training for quartermasters (QM) and awards six Navy Enlisted Classifications through the delivery of 27 engineering advanced schools.
