The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Alaska District conducted cleanup work at Chernofski Harbor in Unalaska. The Formerly Used Defense Site Program team spent the spring removing contaminated soil and conducting archeological investigations of the site which is approximately 50 miles southwest of the City of Unalaska. The military originally used the site in World War II as a sub-post of Fort Mears and then as a sub-post of Fort Glenn. The Alaska District conducts environmental remediation of military sites from the World War II era around the state under the FUDS program. (U.S. Army photo by Kelly Eldridge)
