U.S. Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Michael Hovis, a Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron 3 engineman and Triboli, Ill., native, directs the pilot of a patrol boat onto a trailer during a boat recovery, Oct. 11, 2012, in the Port of Djibouti, Africa. The U.S. Navy squadron, deployed from Naval Outlying Landing Field in Imperial Beach, Calif., is made up of an alpha and bravo team. Each is comprised of a patrol leader, coxswains, gunners, engineers, and navigators. During a mission they are responsible for the force protection, escort service and static defense of all U.S. Naval vessels that operate within Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa's joint operations area.
