SASEBO, Japan (August 11, 2022) – A diver assigned to Task Unit 75.5.7 utilizes a Broco exothermic cutting rod to remove a pile bracket from one of the Pier 1006 pontoons. Before the pontoons can be moved, divers must remove all pile brackets and platforms to free the pontoons from the piles. Task Unit 75.5.7 has been tasked with recovering and removing the sunken Pier 1006 from Juliet Basin, a large 7th Fleet landing area that is used to accommodate amphibious ships, port operations craft, and security vessels. Task Force 75 is 7th Fleet's primary expeditionary task force and is responsible for the planning and execution of maritime security operations, explosive ordnance disposal, diving, engineering and construction, and underwater construction throughout the Indo-Pacific region.
