Coast Guard conducts counter-illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing operations [Image 4 of 15]
U.S. Coast Guard members conduct a boarding of a fishing vessel in the Eastern Pacific, August 3, 2022. The Coast Guard completed a counter-illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing operation for the first time under the South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organization (SPRFMO). The Coast Guard’s actions ensured law enforcement presence among a substantial fleet of more than 400 fishing and transshipment vessels. Much of the fishing in the Eastern Pacific is accomplished by distant water fishing vessels, supported by transshipment vessels. These large-scale operations traverse the world’s oceans, and can often involve forced labor, human trafficking, human rights abuses, and maritime pollution. (U.S. Coast Guard photo)
