Lt. Gen. David Bellon, commanding general of U.S. Marine Corps Forces South and U.S. Marine Corps Forces Reserve located in New Orleans, recently engaged with partner nation officers attending the Naval Small Craft Instruction and Technical Training School’s Strategic Leaders International Course.

Bellon, who has served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 33 years, spoke with strategic leaders from Angola, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mauritania, the Philippines, and Sri Lanka; countries representing the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command and U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) areas of operation.

The former Marine judge advocate, who served on multiple combat tours in support of Operations Iraq Freedom and Enduring Freedom, engaged the SLIC officers in discussions about the assumption of risk as leaders and the overall concept of security and democracy within their own borders.

SLIC is a four-week professional development curriculum designed for senior military leaders, diplomats, and senior government officials from U.S. partner nations. Leaders are introduced to topics such as systemic strategy design through introductory work in systems thinking, data analytics, design thinking, public interest communications, and the foundational values of national identity.

NAVSCIATTS is a security cooperation schoolhouse, located at the NASA's John C. Stennis Space Center, operating in support of geographic combatant commanders’ theater security cooperation priorities. The international training command trains and educates foreign security force professionals across the tactical, operational, and strategic spectrums through in-residence and mobile training team course of instruction. More than 13,000 students from 124 partner nations have trained with this command. (Photos by Michael Williams)
