NAVAL AIR STATION NORTH ISLAND, Calif., (Aug. 18, 2022) -- Adm. Bill Lescher, Vice Chief of Naval Operation, right, talks with Vice Adm. Kenneth Whitesell, Commander, Naval Air Forces during a visit to CNAF headquarters on board Naval Air Station North Island, California, Aug. 18. Lescher also toured Fleet Readiness Center Southwest, observing the progress of the first F/A-18F Super Hornet undergoing Service Life Modification (SLM), which will add more than 4,000 hours of flight time to the aircraft’s service life and upgrade it to the Block III variant. The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet Block III is a critical part of the Air Wing of the Future that will provide our Carrier Strike Groups (CSG) advanced capabilities in order to maintain overmatch with our adversaries, support our partners and allies, and keep conflict far from our shores.
