Extortion 17 was the callsign of the CH-47D Chinook helicopter that crashed after being struck by a rocket propelled grenade on August 6, 2011, killing all 30 U.S. service members inside the aircraft, including a pilot and flight crew with 7th Battalion, 158th Aviation Regiment (General Support Aviation Battalion).
