220730-M-RA094-1013 USS ESSEX, Pacific Ocean (July 30, 2022) A U.S. Marine assigned to Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 169 (HMLA-169), Marine Air-Ground Task Force 7 (MAGTF-7), observes an UH-1Y Venom assigned to HMLA-169, MAGTF-7, aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD2), during an amphibious raid exercise in support of Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2022, July 30. Twenty-six nations, 38 ships, three submarines, more than 170 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC 2022 from June 29 to Aug. 4 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world’s largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC 2022 provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world’s oceans.
