Staff Sgt. Ryan Ramos, a medic assigned to the 773d Civil Support Team, 7th Mission Support Command sketches a land survey of historical defensive fighting positions from the D-Day invasion.
"After sketching those cliffs I turned my notebook over to look at it from the U.S. perspective," Said Ramos. "Those cliffs were the deadliest thing those young Americans had ever seen in their entire lives, yet they were walking, running, dying... They didn’t stop. It made me proud and it humbled me.
"A staff ride is a historical study of a campaign or battle that envisions a systematic preliminary study, an extensive visit to campaign sites, and an opportunity to integrate lessons derived from each. A significant component of this detailed study is the analysis of the terrain over which the action took place and the effect of that terrain upon the battle or campaign. It is this three-dimensional visualization of the battlefield that separates a staff ride from a battle analysis." - Staff Ride Team
