Matthew Atwood, Owner of Tactical K-9 Services, works with his K-9, Malinois Zhukov, to detect hazards at the World Track and Field Championships, University of Oregon, in Eugene, Ore., on July 16, 2022. Atwood and Zhukov are members of a Joint Hazard Assessment Team (JHAT), which is composed of members of the 102nd Weapons of Mass Destruction - Civil Support Team, Oregon National Guard, and other local, state, and federal agencies. The team of agencies stand ready to prevent and respond to Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive (CBRNE) hazards. The team regularly patrolled the grounds at the Championships and responded to any suspicious bags, vehicles, or other potential threats at the site. The World Track and Field Championships were held July 15-24 and it was the first time the event was held in the United States.
