220531-N-NC372-199 Members from HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division lift one of Pre-Commissioning Unit John F. Kennedy’s (CVN 79) SPY-6(V)3 radars before being installed permanently on John F. Kennedy. The SPY-6(V)3 variant was designed and built by Raytheon Technologies specifically for the U.S. Navy’s Ford-Class of aircraft carriers. The SPY-6(V)3 aboard John F. Kennedy features three fixed-faced array faces, each containing nine radar modular assemblies providing John F. Kennedy with air traffic control and ship self-defense capabilities. John F. Kennedy is the second Ford-class aircraft carrier and is under construction at HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division in Newport News, Virginia.
