Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Malacia Ashford, from Columbia, South Carolina, a dental technician assigned to USS Gerald R. Ford’s (CVN 78) medical department, receives a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medal from Capt. Paul Lanzilotta, Ford’s commanding officer, during the ship’s summer safety standdown, July 18, 2022. Ashford provided first aid by performing the Heimlich maneuver on a fellow Sailor who was choking and experiencing difficulty breathing.
