A World War II veteran, Bill Casassa who was assigned to 638th Tank Destroyer Battalion, 84th Infantry Division hands out biography pamphlets to French citizens, June 6, 2022, during the 78th Commemoration Ceremonie de Utah Beach, at Utah Beach, Normandie, France. Relieving the isolated 82nd Airborne Division at Sainte-Mère-Église, the 4th Infantry Division cleared the Cotentin peninsula and took part in the capture of Cherbourg on June 25, 1944. After taking part in the fighting near Periers, July 6-12, 1944, the division broke through the left flank of the German 7th Army in order to help liberate the French city of Periers.
