The 1898 Oregon Inlet Life-Saving Station rises above the shifting sands in Oregon Inlet, NC, in April 2022. The 1898 station is the third life-saving station to serve the treacherous Oregon Inlet between the Atlantic Ocean and Pamlico Sound. The shifting stands and storms destroyed the previous stations. The station was abandoned in 1988 and replaced by a modern station on the Pamlico Sound in 1990. The Station recently received restoration by the State of North Carolina to bring it back to its former glory (U.S. Coast Guard photo by Auxiliarist Andrew Winz)
