U.S. Army Sgt. Matthew Maurino, Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1-114th Infantry Regiment, plots his land navigation route during the New Jersey Army National Guard’s Best Warrior Competition at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey, April 19, 2022. Competitors are tested on physical fitness, marksmanship, land navigation, and other soldiering tasks. Five Soldiers, one Airman, and seven noncommissioned officers are competing, April 18-21, 2022. The top Soldier and NCO will go on to compete against seven other states of Region I in Niantic, Connecticut, May 10-13, 2022. The Best Warrior Competition recognizes Soldiers who demonstrate commitment to the Army Values, embody the Warrior Ethos, and represent the Force of the Future.
