SAN DIEGO (April 20, 2022) Cmdr. Stephen Hutton, Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command (NMRTC) San Diego's associate chief medical officer (right), awards Karen Tunstall, a registered nurse and department representative assigned to NMRTC San Diego's Prenatal Intensive Care Unit (left), with a Patient Safety Award during a ceremony at the hospital April 20. The Patient Safety Award recognizes high-reliability organizations that enhance a culture of safety, reduce harm, enhance patient experience and safety through education, promote teamwork and awareness and reduce healthcare-acquired conditions. NMRTC San Diego’s mission is to prepare service members to deploy in support of operational forces, deliver high quality healthcare services and shape the future of military medicine through education, training and research.
