Blanchfield Army Community Hospital Forensic Healthcare program manager, Evangeline Barefoot gathers an unused physical evidence recovery kit and other items she needs to perform a sexual assault forensic exam. These exams are conducted by specially trained Sexual Assault Medical Forensic Examiners to collect evidence from victims of sexual assault that may be helpful if the victim seeks prosecution of the perpetrator of the assault. There is no obligation for service members to file an investigation or notify their command after undergoing the exam, but it helps to ensure the patient receives the medical care they need and preserves evidence in case the patient later decides to file an unrestricted report.
