NORFOLK (April 1, 2022) – Command Master Chief James Timmerman and Chief Petty Officer Machinist Mate Laniyah Bradley cut a cake with a saber to celebrate the 129th birthday of the Chiefs Mess on the roof of the non-self-propelled barracks ship (APL 42), April 1, 2022. The rank of chief petty officer was added to the U.S. Navy in 1893 to recognize long-time petty officers who showed the outstanding leadership and hard work.
