Jon Pouncey, Ph.D., measures the output of a commercial erbium-glass micro-laser. Despite its small size, this laser produces pulses of up to 75,000 watts of peak power. Yet, the wavelength and low energy of this device make it a class 1 laser, which does not require eye protection for operation.
