Trent Belcher, a Fort Stewart Directorate of Public Works Forestry Branch burn technician, sends a spurt of fire into the woods, March 3 in the installation’s training area. Researchers from the U.S. Forest Service, the U.S. Geological Survey, the National Weather Service, University of Florida and University of Washington were on-hand to study the burn and collect data to create prescribed burn fire models to assist prescription burning across the nation as part of the Department of Defense’s Wildland Fire Initiative study.
