Beverly Hudgins, Director for Marine Corps Community Services Marine Corps Base Hawaii, presents a ceremonial plank to Col. Timothy S. Brady Jr, commanding officer, 3d Marine Littoral Regiment, 3d Marine Division during a plank-owner ceremony presented by Marine Corps Community Services aboard Marine Corps Base Hawaii, March 2, 2022. A "plank owner" is an individual who was a member of the crew of a ship when that ship was placed in commission. Originally, this term applied only to crewmembers present at the ship's first commissioning. Today, however, it is often applied to members of a recommissioning crew or unit as well. Each Marine assigned to 3d MLR received a wooden plank symbolizing their significant contributions as an original member of the 3d MLR. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Patrick King)
