PRUDHOE BAY, Alaska (March 3, 2022) – Senior Chief Sonar Technician (Submarine) Troy Barnhart, right, from Unmanned Undersea Vehicle Squadron (UUVRON) 1-Keyport, Wash., adjusts the propeller assembly on an IVER-3 autonomous underwater vehicle in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. Over the duration of the U.S. Navy’s Ice Exercise (ICEX) 2022, UUVRON 1 intends to enhance the capability of underwater navigation in the Arctic. Ice Camp Queenfish is an encampment built on an ice floe 160 nautical miles off the coast of Alaska in the Arctic Ocean. ICEX 2022 is a three-week exercise that allows the Navy to assess its operational readiness in the Arctic, increase experience in the region, advance understanding of the Arctic environment, and continue to develop relationships with other services, allies and partner organizations.
