CAMP LEMONNIER, Djibouti (Jan. 10, 2021) – U.S. Navy Gunner’s Mate 1st Class Ryan Ramirez, a Sailor from San Antonio and Camp Lemonnier Range Safety Officer, leads a dry-fire, small-arms familiarization training as Gunner’s Mate 3rd Class Jonathan Zamora, a Sailor from Modesto, Calif. provides a demonstration to the class. Dry-fire is the practice of aiming the weapon and squeezing the trigger without ammunition to promote the fundamentals of accuracy and proficiency before the actual live-fire exercise. CLDJ serves as an expeditionary base for U.S. military forces providing support to ships, aircraft and personnel that ensure security throughout Europe, Africa and Southwest Asia. The base enables maritime and combat operations in the Horn of Africa while fostering positive U.S.-Africa relations. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Jonathan Word)
