U.S. Indo-Pacific Command Hosts Mid-Joint Committee Meeting in the Republic of Palau

KOROR, Palau – Commander, Joint Region Marianas (JRM) Rear Adm. Benjamin Nicholson traveled to the Republic of Palau where he along with several INDOPACOM and JRM staff members and advisors participated in the mid-Joint Committee Meeting (JCM) Dec. 13-17 held at the Palau Community College in Koror.

Nicholson joined representatives from the Department of Defense, U.S. Embassy and the government of Palau in discussions centering on mutual interests and common needs: the defense and security of the region. In his opening remarks, Nicholson stated, “this collaboration is critical to achieving our shared goal of our nations’ economic prosperity, the preservation of our values, and to maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific.”

JCMs are a critical component of the Compact of Free Association between the Republic of Palau and the U.S. The semi-annual meetings allow Palauan leadership and the U.S. military and federal partners to discuss a range of topics including regional security and defense matters and joint-use construction and training opportunities.
