U.S. Marine Corps Col. Quintin Jones, Commanding Officer of 23rd Marine Regiment, races to the finish line of the “Jingle Bell Rockin’ Run," a holiday-themed 5k race, on Fort Pickett, Virginia, Dec. 25, 2021. Approximately 1,300 service members are spending the holidays on Fort Pickett in support of Operation Allies Welcome. The Department of Defense, through the U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
