    Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency

    U.S. Army Soldiers assigned to Bravo Company, 1-27th Infantry Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, escort the casket of Army Pfc. Anthony Mendonca during his funeral at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii, Dec. 16, 2021. Mendonca was a member of Company A, 106th Infantry Regiment, 27th Infantry Division, as American forces participated in the battle for Saipan, part of a larger operation to secure the Mariana Islands, when he was killed during battle on June 28, 1944. Mendonca was identified on April 9, 2020, through dental and anthropological analysis, as well as circumstantial evidence. DPAA’s mission is to achieve the fullest possible accounting for missing and unaccounted-for U.S. personnel to their families and our nation. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Jack A. E. Rigsby)
