Students and staff from Ellsworth High School unpack school supply donations at the Sparta, Wisconsin National Guard Armory, Dec. 13, 2021. Ellsworth High School students raised money to purchase school supplies for 1,056 Afghan evacuees attending English classes at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin through Operation Allies Welcome. The Department of Defense, through U.S. Northern Command, and in support of the Department of Homeland Security, is providing transportation, temporary housing, medical screening, and general support for at least 50,000 Afghan evacuees at suitable facilities, in permanent or temporary structures, as quickly as possible.
