U.S. Navy Hospitalman Andrea Flores, a corpsman with Headquarters and Support Battalion, 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines, a part of the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), conducts whole blood transfusions while participating in a Valkyrie training aboard Marine Corps base Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Nov. 22, 2021. The training consisted of corpman drawing a sailor’s blood through one vein, and returning it to another vein on the opposite arm, to better understand transfusion procedures, in a controlled enviornment. The Valkyrie program was created to improve efficiency and confidence of corpsmen performing this emergency life-saving procedure on casualties within a combat environment.
