Kenneth Ward, commanding officer of the USS America, during a press conference aboard the ship while at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan, Nov. 19, 2021. The USS America welcomed Japanese press as an opportunity to learn more about the ship and the installation’s harbor’s capabilities. Also visiting were Yoshihiko Fukuda, the mayor of Iwakuni; Manabu Imakyurei, the director general of the Chugoku-Shikoku Defense Bureau; Shunji Ohstuka, the director of the Iwakuni Prefectural Citizen Affairs Bureau, and other Japanese guests.
