Cmdr. Joe Gorgol, Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic’s carrier training officer, briefs crew members of USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) during the ship’s crew certification (CREWCERT) II, Nov. 17, 2021. Orchestrated by Carrier Strike Group 12 and supported by Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic and Afloat Training Group, CREWCERT II will ensure that the first-in-class aircraft carrier is ready for operational employment next year. Ford is in port at Newport News Shipyard executing her Planned Incremental Availability (PIA), a six-month period of modernization, maintenance and repairs.
