CAMP SAPPORO, Japan – Maj. Gen. JB Vowell, U.S. Army Japan’s commanding general, presented awards to several members of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force’s Northern Army during a ceremony here Nov. 15. Lt. Gen. Yoshihiko Okimura, JGSDF Northern Army’s commanding general, Maj. Gen. Takashi Tomisaki, JGSDF Northern Army’s deputy chief of staff for administration, Maj. Gen. Hideaki Mitsui, JGSDF Northern Army’s deputy chief of staff for operations, and Col. Hisaaki Nakamoto, Hokkaido Training Center commander, were all recognized on behalf of U.S. Army Pacific with the Meritorious Service Medal for their contributions to the U.S.-Japan alliance.
