211028-M-ON629-1026 MANAMA, Bahrain (Oct. 28, 2021) A student at the Bahrain Regional Institute for Active Learning (RIA) plays with colored blocks, Oct. 28. Marines and Sailors assigned to the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) and the amphibious dock landing ship USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52) visited RIA during a volunteer opportunity while in port. RIA offers learning facilities for students of all ages with special educational needs. Pearl Harbor and the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit are deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
