U.S. Marine Corps Col. Douglas Burke, commanding officer of Combat Logistics Regiment 37, 3d Marine Logistics Group, cuts the celebratory birthday with the traditional Mameluke sword during a cake cutting ceremony on Camp Kinser, Okinawa, Japan, Nov. 10, 2021. The Mameluke sword is used as a reminder that the Marine Corps is a band of warriors, committed to carrying the sword, so that the nation may live in peace. Marines with CLR-37 conduct a motivational run and cake cutting ceremony in honor of the Marine Corps’ 246th Birthday. 3d MLG, based out of Okinawa, Japan, is a forward-deployed combat unit that serves as III Marine Expeditionary Force’s comprehensive logistics and combat service support backbone for operations throughout the Indo-Pacific area of responsibility.
