Brig. Gen. Anthony Henderson, Deputy Commanding General, II Marine Expeditionary Force, front, receives a brief from Capt. Jeremy Shamblee, USS Gerald R. Ford's (CVN 78) executive officer, illustrating differences between the Ford-class and Nimitz-class aircraft carriers in the captain’s in port cabin during a ship tour, Oct. 27, 2021. During the visit, Henderson met with Ford leaders and toured several spaces to gain a better tactical understanding of Ford's capabilities. Ford is in port at Newport News Shipyard executing her Planned Incremental Availability (PIA), a six-month period of modernization, maintenance and repairs.
