A military jet aircraft, identifiable as an AV-8B Harrier II, is performing a vertical or short takeoff/landing (V/STOL) maneuver on what appears to be the flight deck of an aircraft carrier at dusk or dawn. A silhouetted deck crew member stands in the foreground observing the operation. The warm, hazy sky and exhaust smoke create a dramatic atmospheric backdrop.

A U.S. Marine Corps AV-8B Harrier assigned to the Aviation Combat Element of the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), lands on the flight deck during flight operations aboard amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD 3), Oct. 19, 2021. Kearsarge, the flagship for the 22nd MEU and Amphibious Squadron (PHIBRON) 6, is underway for PHIBRON-MEU Integrated Training (PMINT) in preparation for a future deployment. PMINT is the first at-sea period in the MEU’s Predeployment Training Program; it aims to increase interoperability and build relationships between Marines and Sailors.
