Senior military leaders render a salute during the playing of the national anthem at an unveiling ceremony for the Gold Star Families Memorial in Hagåtña, Guam, Sept. 30, 2021. The ceremony included an unveiling of a site dedication sign and a virtual keynote speech from Hershel Woodrow “Woody” Williams, Medal of Honor recipient who participated in the Liberation of Guam. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Battle of Iwo Jima. Through the Woody Williams Foundation, more than 87 Gold Star Families Memorial Monuments were established throughout the United States with additional monuments underway.
